Customer participation in preparation is the key to keeping our prices affordable. Remember to remove all bearings, degrease as much as possible to avoid contamination of sandblasting sand and oven floor, remove all plastic-rubber-decals, and pre-mask any areas you do not want coated. Standard masking includes any threaded areas and press bearings.
Our process includes sandblasting to clean the surface, remove rust, oxidation, and old paint. By including this step in the powder coating process, we ensure that the powder will make direct contact with the object without any interference from remaining imperfections. Sandblasting may also uncover whether or not an object has been previously repaired with bondo or fiber glass which will need to be properly repaired before power coating.
We then use an electrostatic application to apply a durable polymer coating plastic which is baked on at 400 degrees. The unique characteristics of powder coatings provide a superior consistency and uniformity of a finish without sags, drips or runs. They provide extremely durable films which enhances the high quality and value-added image of any consumer product. In general, the performance properties such as impact resistance, flexibility and corrosion resistance of powder coating long out lasts that of liquid paint. This type of coating resists cracking, peeling and marring during handling and normal service use. It also provides a product that requires very low maintenance as compared to chroming or polished aluminum.
